INTERVIEW: Milan van Ewijk reflects on his first season in England and looks ahead to final day

3 May 2024

As the 2023/24 season draws to an end, defender Milan van Ewijk looked back on his first season with Coventry City.

The defender has enjoyed a successful first year in England and has played a key role in the Sky Blues side.

Milan spoke of his enjoyment when looking back at the campaign, whilst also saying he can’t wait for next season to begin already.

Looking back at his first season…

“My first season in the UK and I’ve enjoyed this far and being here with the team. I really like the UK competition and it’s something I’ve enjoyed.

“In Holland you play 34 games in a season, and here you play 12 more games and at the beginning its heavy on your body, but you get used to it.”

Recent run of results…

“We create enough chances to get back on top and win games, but I don’t know the reasons why we’re losing.

“We all feel good and ready to play the games and the last game tomorrow is just as important as the other games and we want to finish with a win.”

Goals being conceded…

“The last couple of games we have conceded a lot of goals, not goals where we’ve been outplayed, there have been some personal mistakes.

“If we can get that out of our system, then we will be back on top again.”

The Sky Blue Army…

“Everyone appreciates the love and support that we get every home and away game. It’s nice to see how big the support is that we have from the fans.”

Challenging again at the top of the table next season…

“We’re not that far off. We’ve played most of the season good games, including against the bigger teams and showing we belong in the play-offs.

“We’re not far off, we just have to be more consistent and keeping the goals out and cutting out personal mistakes.

“If we can get that out, then 100% we can make the play-offs next season.”

Tatsuhiro Sakamoto coming back from injury…

“I hope to play with him soon again. I hope he’s getting fitter and stronger, and I can’t wait to play with him again, we need him in the team.”

Always staying positive…

“There’s always been a positive vibe here and in the dressing room. We always try and stay positive.

“Personally, I can’t be disappointed especially after our first season together and the things we have accomplished as a team.

“We’re all looking forward to next season.”
