INTERVIEW: Mark Robins on QPR defeat, 2023/24 season and Liam Kelly's future

Robins looks back on the game...

4 May 2024

Mark Robins looked back at defeat to Queens Park Rangers as well as reflecting on the season just gone by.

Jamie Allen pulled one back late on for the Sky Blues, but it wasn’t enough, as the visitors held on for three points.

Speaking after the final whistle, Robins gave his reaction to the game, the 2023/24 season, as well as addressing the future of Liam Kelly and Callum O’Hare.

Looking back on the game…

“In possession, good, out of possession, not so good. We didn’t do enough in the opening half hour, there was hardly anything in the game and we were goals down.

“You can see everyone has been fatigued for the last few weeks, but it is what it is, and we have to move through it and now they get chance to have a break.

“The goal we scored was a brilliant one and the two we were conceded were terrible, although Ilias Chair has really good shot, but we missed two tackles and he’s come inside and used Binks’ line to unsight Brad, and he does that really well.

“If you don’t set about it the right way and when you have nothing to play for it can be difficult, but that’s a learning curve for the players, there’s no free hit.”

Reflecting on the season…

“We can all recharge for a little spell, I have some work to do, but time for reflection will come in the next few days,

“Overall, the season has been a memorable one, although we are disappointed, this time last year we were in the play offs and the teams that are in it this year, congratulations to them and the teams that have been promoted.

“This season has been really tough, and I don’t see anything being different next season. We have a load to do during the summer and in pre-season, but that’s for later.

“I would like to say thanks to the support. They’ve been brilliant all season and they’ve been patient at times which we need.”

Liam Kelly’s last game…

“That will be the last game for Liam Kelly. He has been an unbelievable servant, and it was fitting tribute to him and to what he has done and achieved with us.

“He’s been incredible, he’s a top, top person and he has been brilliant on and off the field and I wish him all the best in what he chooses to do next.

“That’s one of the sad things that happens in football season to season.”

Callum O’Hare’s future…

“Callum, everyone is anticipating him moving on and he got an incredible send off as well.

“I said in the dressing room, I’m not going to give up on him yet and we started laughing.

“I know he will probably choose somewhere else to go, but he has been outstanding.”

Looking ahead to next season…

“We will build into next season and hopefully we can get off to quicker start than we have done in previous years.

“There are bits to do, and we can see that but there are some really good signs as well.”
