3 May 2024

Mark Robins is hoping to sign off the 2023/24 season with three points when the Sky Blues entertain Queens Park Rangers at the Coventry Building Society Arena.

The Sky Blues head into the final game of the season sat in 9th in the Championship, coming up against a QPR side who have enjoyed a successful second half of the season, pulling themselves clear of the relegation zone.

Speaking ahead of the fixture, Robins looked back at recent results, previewed tomorrow’s opponents and gave his thanks to the Coventry City supporters for their backing throughout the 2023/24 season.

Going out on a win tomorrow and looking back at the season…

“Tomorrow, it’s about trying to win. It’s Legend’s Day, which is always a brilliant day for this football club, and we have players here now who will strive to be spoken about int hose same terms.

“What we’ve done this season has been about rebuilding and regalvanising. We’ve played some really good football, there’s been a lot of excitement, some really good games as usual and there have been things that have happened within those games that have been fantastic and there have been things that have happened in others that haven’t been so great that we need to address.

“We have to look at how we go moving forward, me and Adi have already spoken about things we want to do next season and things will move quickly after the final whistle.”

Coming up against Queens Park Rangers…

“It’s always important to win. It’s always about winning and if we can finish with a win tomorrow, then fantastic.

“QPR are a different side to what we faced earlier in the season under Martí Cifuentes. They’ve been really good, and they’ve managed to get themselves in a much stronger position, playing some good football, aggressive football.

“The game will be difficult, it will be tough, but we want to finish the season off properly, we always do.”

Recent run of results…

“The results haven’t been good enough, but I know the reasons for that, and it was always going to be that way.

“That isn’t being defeatist, that’s just knowing what’s likely to come round the corner if certain things happen.

“It was the perfect storm, you get injuries to key players, that means there’s a knock-on effect and then the games we ended up having are against real top opposition.”

Tatsuhiro Sakamoto update…

“The biggest thing is, that he is fit now. Coming into the last game of the season he’s fit.

“He’s been out nine weeks, and it feels a lot longer than that, which shows the number of games that we’ve had since then.

“He is running and back on the grass and he will be available at the start of pre-season.”

The Sky Blue Army this season…

“I can’t thank the supporters enough. We come out and see the numbers in the stadium and it gives you a buzz right from the start.

“For the players its incredible and the positivity from the stands and you feel that with big numbers, it carries the players.

“It takes things to a different level, and we will need that moving forward, so please, when they can and if they can, renew their season ticket and let’s see if we can beat last year’s number and fill the stadium next season.

“It can be a hugely significant moment and give us a platform to have a memorable season again and I’m already looking forward to it.”
